Our Methodology
We don't rely on black-box AI or simple calendar counting. canihavesex.today is built on established, science-backed fertility awareness principles.
The Symptothermal Method
The app calculates your fertility based on the Symptothermal method, a form of fertility awareness that observes primary signs of fertility to identify your body's daily status. It does not predict future dates based on old averages like a standard period tracker, but rather analyzes exactly what your body is doing today.
It's also one of the most-studied fertility-awareness methods — a large 2007 study found roughly 99.4% method effectiveness with perfect use.
What We Track
- Basal Body Temperature (BBT): Your resting temperature shifts slightly after ovulation. Tracking this helps confirm that ovulation has occurred.
- Cervical Fluid: Changes in fluid consistency indicate the opening of the fertile window leading up to ovulation.
- Daily Signs: Secondary signs and observations that help build a complete picture of your cycle.
Why Not Just Predict It?
Calendar-based apps assume every cycle is exactly the same length. But human bodies aren't clocks. Stress, illness, travel, and lifestyle changes can easily delay ovulation. By tracking real-time biomarkers instead of relying on past averages, the app provides a more accurate, personalized answer to the question: where am I in my cycle today?
Honest Answers
If the app doesn't have enough data to confidently confirm your status, it won't guess. It will simply tell you that it's unsure, prompting you to keep logging or act with caution. We prioritize safety and clarity over giving you a false sense of security.
